15 Oct Politics is a Circus
In the last year, I have heard more people on the news, on the radio, and in articles referring to our political climate as a circus- a spectacle of sorts here to entertain.
Our family ran away with the circus 10 years ago and it is one of the best decisions we have ever made. The Great Y Circus in Redlands, California is the longest running, all volunteer based circus in the world. We just happen to choose this city to raise our kids and thank God we did! The circus has become our family.
First, it’s long hours- days, weeks and months of training for nine shows in May. Students and trainers work together perfecting a routine; months of training are whittled down to minutes. There are different classes based on what the student can do or is willing to put in the time to learn. There are trainers, remember all volunteer, who work with performers with different skill sets, and most of these trainers are the young adults or adults who have shown an interest in “teaching”. There are parents, grandparents, aunties, and uncles who are helping in the sidelines. There is teamwork.
“To refer to politics as a circus besmirches everything that circus represents.”
A team cannot exist without a commitment to the cause and to one another. A team cannot exist without communication. A team cannot exist without compromise. A team cannot exist without compassion. To refer to politics as a circus besmirches everything that circus represents. Is your local, state, or national leader committed, communicates clearly, compromises or is compassionate?
Do they spend countless hours helping others, lifting (literally sometimes) others so they can attain a goal? Do they sweat, bleed, and cry over their team? Do they link hands, bow their heads to whatever Creator they may or may not believe in to support the team? Do they love other’s children and want the best for them as if they were their own? Do they weep when others fail? Do they love? Do they love?
If our politicians ran our towns, counties, cities, states, and nation like they were in a circus than go ahead and call them a clown, an aerialist, a juggler, a circus artist, a freak and we will be honored as a circus community that someone shows that kind of love and resolve, but until then please keep the circus out of politics. We take pride in being a team.
